KUNA, Idaho (CBS2) — Three Idaho children are mourning the loss of their dad and stepmom after the couple died in a small plane crash over the weekend in Arizona.
Tim Gill, 37, and Joylani Kamalu, 40 were flying to Arizona from Vista, Calif., where they lived. The wreckage from the crash was found on Sunday.
Nick Gill,18, said his dad and stepmom were 'the embodiment of passion' and they enjoyed traveling and going on adventures together.
“Getting into aviating, he would say to his wife 'hey, I want to build a plane' and he and my mom would just go 'well let's do this, let's get down to business' like they were really the embodiment of passion,” Nick said.
Tim was training to be a commercial pilot. His three kids said their dad and stepmom loved to fly and were out celebrating Joylani's birthday. Family members said they were devastated when they heard the news of the crash.
“To wake up, and have both of my parents gone, was a loss I literally have never experienced in my life,” Nick said.
Since 2017, the couple shared their adventures on their YouTube channel Tango and Juliet.
“I want people to not only watch their videos but remember him and his voice and how happy he made people with his music,” Nick said.
Tim's daughter, Angel, 13, said on top of her parents being travelers, her dad had a passion for music and loved performing with his band Tim Gill and the Tim Gill All-Stars.
“The thing that made him special was his passion. If he wanted to do something like when he first started getting into music, he wanted to go big so he started his own band," Angel said.
Tim was also a music composer. His ex-wife said he helped compose music for Disney's"Phineas and Ferb: Candace against the Universe", the Queen's Gambit on Netflix. and he helped compose music for "Don't Worry Darling" which has yet to release.
Tim also worked at Disney as a performer. Nick said he has fond memories of spending time at Disney with his dad and stepmom.
"We would just be sitting there bored while my dad was playing for the Pixarmonic and my mom would look at us and say 'You guys are bored huh?' and we would say 'Yeah' and she would go 'Let's go to Disneyland!' and we would pack up our stuff, make a couple of sandwiches and just walk into Disneyland,” Nick said.
Angel said she wants to remember her dad and stepmom by doing something at the beach.
“I feel like if we did something at the beach it would connect them because she grew up in Hawaii and he grew up in California and they are both connected to the beach, and water is around the world and they love the world,” Angel said.
Nick said he hopes people will remember how amazing his dad and stepmom were.
"These people will definitely be missed, definitely be honored and recognized as two beautiful people rather than a tragedy,” Nick said.
